Multimedia journalist Evaluation

In this post , I will be evaluating a multimedia journalist on their work and their style of producing an blog/news story.

Here I have Tradesha Woodard, a Memphis, Tennessee native and also an alumni from Middle Tennessee State University, earning her degree in exact career now; Multimedia journalist. She has never really left the state of Tennessee in pursuit of her career, bouncing around from Memphis and Nashville. All leading up to her being selected to work the multimedia journalist position for WRDW News 12, located in Augusta Georgia

From viewing her work ,Tradesha is a very talented writer. She uses a very unique story-telling method. She’s not only trying to deliver news , but tell you a story at the same time. For example, the way she tells this story about an 4 year-old who was born with immunodeficiency , in simpler words he was born without an immune system. But the story was definlty heartwarming and genuine. See for yourself here:

She seems to have a soft spot for children stories, highlighting their lives bringing a spotlight to them. Things like this should not be overlooked I believe. Also, to include about her writing style. She is heavy on dialogue, I would say she’s not really into technology the way she formats her stories. She provides a video before the story , then commences with the storytelling. No in-between graphics or links until the very end. I feel her mission is to truly have to the reader/audience feel the story she is producing. Very authentic and with and bright future ahead of her.

Multimedia project

This is a Multimedia project based on the coronavirus showing how much of an impact it has had on universities and certain departments. Along with my multimedia project I have republished my audio story , video story and also my video slideshow.

Also these videos all have something in common, that base denominator would be COVID-19. Aside from the multimedia project. The other three productions tell the story of how the coronavirus affected the daily life of gamers, specifically “Call of duty” players. My interviewee expresses how COVID-19 has brought him closer to something he believes is a passion now. He mentions missing the freedom to go outside and breathe the fresh air without any type of mask. Now he happily confesses that playing “Call of duty” has surely compensated for that.

It compensated so much , that he even considered joining leagues where you can win cash prizes and all sorts or things. Even having the idea of eventually developing into a game tester, which was probably the last thing he thought of before COVID-19 hit so suddenly. Even though the coronavirus has created this worldwide shift, that doesn’t mean that absolutely anything good can’t come from it. My interviewee could have possibly have had a life changing moment literally by just playing a video game, the possibilities are truly endless.

Now, that story is just one of the many stories that benefited from COVID-19, and I’m sure my interviewee will take his new found passion to the sky. Now as for certain institutes such as colleges or universities, COVID-19’s impact had a different turn. Bringing us to the theater department of western Illinois university.

Recently an interview was done with a staff member of the WIU’s Theater Department, Donald Langley. He expressed the hardships that the department has face in the midst of this pandemic. Claiming that it’s pretty much up to us , the people to chose whether we are going to perseverance through this pandemic and either come out successfully or defeated.

In addition, Western Illinois will continue to run their shows accordingly, just now with the COVID-19 Protocols. With most of the shows being virtual, which will take away from the actors because audience reaction are one of the most vital things to have when producing a live show. Then on the other hand they’ll be able to invite more people to stream into their show, maybe more than what they could have had in their actual auditorium.

Coronavirus really drew the spotlight out when it was time to perform, leaving one of the most terrible first impressions in Amercian history. Now with the newly developed vaccinations, hopefully things can go back to being normal and with the new skills or paths that people have learned while going through this. I’m hopeful and optimistic that it will create new avenues and paths for our future leaders.

These stories were to show my audience the epitome of perseverance and resolution. Whenever one door closes, another one is sure to open up. They stuck out to me because of my shared interests in theatre which is my minor, with video gaming being one of my favorite downtimes. To see the others get it through it and make the best of the things I like, Motivates to keep going and find the Ight at the end of the tunnel. Much praise and thanks to my Interviewee Montrez Jones and Donald Langley.

Data Visualization

For this Data Visualization project , I chose to do a word cloud. This word cloud represents the words that members of my fraternity Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated , goes by.

Throughout this cloud you will see how the values and morals of the fraternity are expressed. With words as such as Omega itself starting with it and ending with it. The year 1911 is heavily emphasized because that would be our founding year along with Howard University which is the founding location of the fraternity. Including our cardinal principles which are Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance , and Uplift and our motto which “Friendship is essential to the soul”. Along with many other words that hold much vitality within the fraternity.

I chose to do a wordCloud for my Farternity because this is one of the things I hold dear to my heart. Something I would go over-the-top for in all honesty, The mixture of words are just touching the surface of what my Fraternity stands by, I also chose to use the website word art to create my visualization because of the varieties of options that are free to use. What attracted me was the the many forms that you could put the words in. Such as the star , which also holds much value in my Fraternity. I would recommend using this application for any future project involving any type of word cloud.

I could go all day but, if you would like to learn more please visit, www.oppf.org and thank you for viewing.

Blog 3

Right I’ll be reflecting on what I’ve learned in my digital media class and how integral is in my life right now.

To start it off, Professor V makes the class entertaining he tries to keep us as involved as much as he can. But learning the ins and outs of photoshop and premiere (video editing) has been a real benefit I would say. I want to be in tv/film production, so gaining a few more pointers has made want to pursue even more. With learning those I’ve gotten the idea to begin making my own videos with me doing all the editing. I figure i should practice the craft now with nothing to lose and all to gain.
